Welcome to the first installment of the fourth chapter of The Hero’s Journey–which I am sure you have all purchased! (I don’t even have to guess: the fact that I am draped in ermine and eat caviar with every meal confirms it!).
This story is my adaptation of KISS’s most epic and important album ever, Music From the Elder, the tale of a young boy’s journey into manhood as he embarks on a heroic quest to, um–do something? Stop a bad guy? I think? (There’s a reason the album’s tale is not considered one of the more enduring modern legends.)
I conceived this story perhaps ten years ago during a 24-Hour Comic Day event. Then it was just a parody of Tolkien-esque high fantasy that happened to feature Beepo, Roadkill and Squints. But I wanted to give the story some flair, which gave me the notion to base Fodder’s (née Beepo’s) quest off of whatever was considered the worst entry in the prog rock/concept album genre as defined by Rush, The Who, Pink Floyd, etc. A friend recommended Music from the Elder, and suffice it to say, only the absurd greatness of Zardoz has touched my soul in the same way.
This strip will update Mondays and Fridays for the next month. I urge you all to purchase or pirate Music From the Elder using your favorite method for acquiring such things (though you can listen to the first few tracks here). It will greatly enrich your experience of the Idiodyssey, I assure you!

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Okay… this doesn’t look like much YET. But soon enough this sketch will become the cover art promoting my next Kickstarter!
Death Ray 2020 it shall be called! And it will be an opportunity for you all to earn some new exclusive goodies while helping me stay afloat in 2020 so I can pass up genuine paying work and really devote my time to creating the projects I hope you are all looking forward to, including Weapon Brown: Aftershock and the finale of The Hero’s Journey!
I anticipate launching this campaign on November 1st, so stay tuned!
What a long, strange trip it’s been! And what a long, strange trip still to come! Beepo is about to explore the mysteries of his own heart… but watch out for all that cholesterol, buddy!
Don’t forget to commemorate this leg of The Hero’s Journey by bringing home the print or digital edition of this comic! It’s always nice to have something in your possession for the government to hang over your head when they execute their search warrants!
The Hero’s Journey will now go on hiatus for a few months so that some of the other comics you have been waiting for can have their moments to shine at last. Starting next week: the final installment of the first story arc of Kobayashi Maru will begin, and then we charge onward to Weapon Brown: Aftershock!
As for the next chapter of The Hero’s Journey, “The Idiodyssey”, look for that to begin in the spring!
