I feel a great disturbance in the force. It’s as if millions of spheres of stuffing cried out in terror and were suddenly RIPPED RIGHT THE F_C_ OUT!

It is times like these that I wish Snoop could talk. He’d see Cal later and say:

“Oh yeah, by the way, remember your best pal, the one that was chasing me? I drove the Zamboni O’ Death right through his, ripped off his head, shat in his heart and danced on his corpse…and when Chuck gets through with you, you’ll wish he’ll be that EASY on you.”

I’m just afraid that JY’s painting himself into a corner here and becoming too Star Wars-y – that is, you know who’s going to live and who’s going to die. He never did justify Crokk’s death, after all – was Crokk there when Chuck was broken by Lucy or something? What’s the difference between Chuck and CAL, except that CAL’s on the other side? We need something truly personal to the hero to make the cartoon three-dimensional. After all, did anyone predict the Little Red-Haired girl dying last time? Cal’s taken out some kids Chuck didn’t know and a handful of supporting characters, but to give his villainy meaning, someone big has to go. And Anne’s not that big to Chuck. But someone else is.

    So much for being connected.

    Aww, poor widdly psychopath.

The difference I’ve seen is that CAL does it for shits and giggles, collateral damage is all part of the fun to him. He’ll go out of his way for cruelty and collateral damage.

Chuck just does what is necessary. Him & Crokk had history, it was obvious from the way they acted to each other. Him & Linus/Lucy obviously had history, and that was where the cruelty came in.

CAL’s a punk riding high on his augments.
Chuck just wants to be left the fuck alone.

I think you’re calling it too early here, Jim. Tim hit on the big reasons that Chuck and CAL are different, I think – the motivation behind their actions. And there’s still a good deal to go and there’s still a lot of people CAL could kill. And we don’t know what’s up with the walking corpse left over from the Hag and the Wiz’s battle. JY hasn’t gone “too Star Wars-y” yet.

Besides…sometimes that’s *okay*. At the end of a long story, especially this one where the only real constant has been that Life Is Shit and Shit Is Life, sometimes it’s perfectly okay to finally just have the bad guys get dead’d and get their just desserts. Especially if this really is going to be the last chapter of Weapon Brown. (Do I remember JY saying that somewhere? Or am I going crazy?)

This series rocks. I wish some of the more mainstream comics could be this good. Wish I could get the collected set on my iPad. It would be great to be able to always have these handy to read again away from home.

These two frames were unexpected. I thought as soon as HOBS died CAL would let out a big NOOOOOOOOOO….so they’re not as psychically linked as we thought. The nature of their relationship is still a bit of a mystery. And what does that say about the original Calvin and Hobbes? Was Hobbes an extension of Calvin, or was he an autonomous entity?

Just like the pissing Calvin sticker, this unauthorised comic is also part of the Calvin mythos: http://planetozh.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/calvin-hobbes-pills.jpg

remember… CAL is an egomaniac. he’s not one to even imagine H.O.B.S. loosing to a non weaponized (?) dog.

also, the idea of CAL killing Snoop in revenge is a rather too cliche.

    Fnordius:

    1. You’re nowhere near (fnord!) cleared to know about that comic. Report to the nearest (fnord!) indoctrination center for re-education.
    2. That may well be the saddest comic strip I’ve ever read in my entire life. You should be ashamed of yourself for showing it to us.

Just out of curiosity, what ever happened to Woodstock? Did he mutate into a bloodthirsty roc, or just cash in on the profits from the Woodstock festivals and retire to a south Pacific island?
