Agreed. Not since Pops has there been a reference so flat-out awesome. In some ways more so, as you nailed Breathed’s humor and delivery.
However. I must take issue with one thing. As badass as Cal-V1n is, no way in hell could he take out the likes of Milo Bloom and Cutter John. Binkley of course wouldn’t stand a chance.
yeah, i’m torn between being delighted at such a beautiful reference, and desolated at their sure and certain fate.
(i suppose in a way it’s kind of appropriate – C&H did pretty much replace BCounty as the quintessential newspaper comic of the time).
Still. Sad. Looking forward to them giving a good accounting of themselves though – will they be cool enough at least to merit an actual visual of HOBS?

Captcha approached the proprieter and asked “You want for this Hartiel 153, are you insane?”
Absolutely magnificent. First we see Bill the Cat, threatening to turn WB and Snoop into hairballs; then we see a store in the background called “Binkley’s Closet”; then we see an Opus-bat preserved in a glass tube (full of herring juice, perhaps?); and now we have Milo, Binkley, Cutter John, and a possible reference to the Closet of Anxieties. Proof positive that “Bloom County” truly rules.
I wonder if Grandpa Bloom, who was always mindlessly pro-nuke, will be part of the invading forces? It would be so cool to see Milo blow him away.
I’m with you guys; what a way to bring in some iconoclasts whom I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time, but damn… why’d it have to be like THIS?? I sure would have thought Milo would be part of Anne’s inner circle, sort of a counter-balance to Huey X… (btw, did we dispose of Mallard Fillmore already?) >;)
Captcha tries to speak to a community with it’s head in the clouds: Natiable nation. (so close…)
I see in this trio the resigned stoic resolve of those knowing they are going to be killed, but realize they might as well make the best of it. It is so fitting for Milo, Binkley and Cutter John to be fighting a battle they cannot win, just like Berke Breathed did against the Syndicate himself.
reCaptcha sees a particularly horrendous doom, though, as it foretells the coming of the mysterious frewthe…
Good God that’s awesome! I was wondering when Bloom County was gonna get some representation beyond Bill the Cat. I mean, they don’t stand a chance, but at least they made it in for a page or two.
Jesus Titty Fucking Christ……
That…was beyond epic.

Good God. It’s Cutter John. I could almost cry, this is so beautiful. Shame they’re about to get all opened up and stuff
Marvelous. Just, marvelous. It even looks like Breathed’s artwork at the end when John is shouting.
Shouldn’t Cutter John have a bunch of animals crawling over him?
U.S.S. Enterpoop cannot be defeated.
Is it just me, or does the rendition of Milo remind anyone of the character RanXerox?

A comic character that incidentally would seem to fit very well in the Weapon Brown universe.

— Captcha is feeling moody: wisented frowning.

@Chyll Will: Mallard Fillmore’s head was literally being served on a platter while Anne was giving Chuck a tour of The Strip.
— I wonder if /radlecin must/ be what Captcha is thinking about…
Beautimous!
EPIC.

Epic. Just epic.
I got nuttin’ for Professor Captcha:
fairacy accepting
You know that Steve Dallas has to be on the Syndicate’s side in all this. Wouldn’t it be awesome to see him teamed up with Uncle Duke?
Steve Dallas IS Uncle Duke.
Captcha response to the eternal question “where’s the deplienn?”: “Which Deplienn”
Something tells me Calvin will make me quite sad in the next strip…
and I’ll be simultaneously wowed…
@JY: never thought about that before, but you may have a point, creator of the Kuato-jammer Kids 😉
Cutter John head explode in 5, 4, 3, 2…..
Is that Guybrush Threepwood?

@Shatman: unlikely….
i’m holding out for tyrannosaurs in F14’s
I don’t normally use the word EPIC, but when I do … it’s for epicness like this page. Stay thirsty (for shmoo), my friends.
Milo, Binkley and Cutter John – man oh man does this page deserve it. You captured them perfectly.
