    I just recently discovered this comic. It’s so sad. Sad is an UNDERSTATEMENT for this comic. Like it breaks my heart that some people actually go through this. Plus this is in the what mid 90’s? Thats even worse. Rape was not a big deal back then and didn’t have really huge charges as it does today. Everyone tried to AVOID the talk of rape, and to have a Dad do this to his daughter without a thought. That’s just. Disgusting and horrible. This is a true monster. It’s not like she could go to the police or anything. They won’t believe her. You relaly did good on Clarissa’s comic bringing into attention the horrors of rape and the psychological and emotional strain it causes to the victims.

    JY: Why do people keep interpreting my adorable Sataurday Morning Cartoon pitch this way??

    So she hates herself and/or blames herself for the abuse. I wonder if it’s because she somewhat enjoys it. Since we’re balls deep in this category lets just talk about it. Rape victims, male and female, sometimes (most of the times) end up hating themselves or being ashamed of themselves for enjoying the rape on some level. Not to say they had the best sex of their lives or anything, but physical stimulation is pretty hard to mentally block out so these people still feel arousal, pleasure, and even orgasm. Those last ones REALLY hate themselves.

    OR none of this is true for her particular case and she just blames herself because both her mother and father tell her it’s her fault, as shown in other comics.

    OR it’s a little of both like in real life.

    JY: I assure you that you are mistaken.

    @herbertherberts

    We tend to blame ourselves because our families, friends, and a large portion of society typically assume we were asking for it or enjoyed it. She blames herself because her mother, as she stated, tells her she’s a little tease (implying she brought it on herself). She’s a kid, ya schmuck.

    Over 15 years later and this is still one of the most warped and disturbing comics ever made.

    Clarissa and Weapon Brown really don’t get enough praise.

    JY: I am in a constant rage over that, too!

    this strip is iconic on /co/, there’s a huge thread about it probably every few weeks. thank you for writing making hilariously disturbing, poignant, and most startlingly honest art.

    JY: You are welcome! Always link me to those threads as you discover them!

    Herbert the fucking pervert coming in with justification for rape. Victims never enjoy it, you stupid animal. In those cases you mentioned, the victims feel betrayed because of the body’s natural response, even when they hate it mentally and emotionally. A lot of rapists use that against the victim and its a devastating form of gaslighting. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were on a list.

    JY: Sorry, I hate to edit, but there are some sentiments that I try to keep outta the comments lest they be misinterpreted.

    Can’t believe that morons think rape wasn’t treated as a big deal in the past. They used to execute people for it. If anything it was a bigger deal in the past. I suppose people love to push narratives that make their demographic out to be some kind if oppressed victim

    If you want to come across as a sexual predator by all means go on an unhinged, unprompted rant about how sexual assault victims are merely pretending to be oppressed. No way does anyone come to that position honestly – it is the product of inner sickness. Imagine reading this comic, of all things, and reacting that way. Obviously, the person pushing a false narrative here is “Mr. Right.” Rape was even less punished historically than it is today, most instances of rape were not even illegal or (when done outside the bonds of marriage or slave-ownership) made the victim subject to being punished for adultery or fornication. When the rapist was punished at all the “enlightened” punishment was the forced marriage of the victim and rapist. I mean, geez, crack open a Bible at some point, it’s all in there. In the exceedingly rare cases where people were put to death for rape it was in societies where the bar for execution was so low that you could be executed for property crimes – because that’s how rape was treated, as a property crime against whichever male the female “rightly belonged to”. And, obviously, lesser forms of sexual abuse were even more lightly regarded than piv rape. And we haven’t even gotten yet to historically-nomalized ritual sexual abuse and mutilation.

    As an aside note that weaponized political nostalgia is a common fascist technique – they fabricate a golden version of the past that never existed in order to justify reversing social progress, and in order to lend the weight of supposed tradition to their campaign for innovation (in their preferred direction) so they can have their cake and eat it, too.

    I remember finding this comic as a kid. The way that the character felt so relatable to me was very helpful back then, and very heartbreaking now.

    JY: You’re welcome and I’m sorry.
