    When’s that peanuts comic from?

    That look on CAL’s face…
    Totally worth it.
Captcha disagrees and gives it an edscert 0-2.5.

Shouldn’t you two be in bed?

(or did you stay up to watch Senator Captcha’s Fleyli Proceedings?)

BRILLIANT! I agree with C.B., the look on CAL’s face is pure poetry, JY. I hope that one day, my ill-gotten decendants will be able to play Ha-Ha Herman in the barren watses of the post-apocalyptic future.

Dr Captcha looked over the comatose lab experiment. He took one last slug from his near drained hip flask and growled “Nurse Crotchet, prepare to administer the tyrihc 280. If that doesn’t snap this lazy jackass back to reality, nothing will.”

That last panel! THAT LAST PANEL!

It’s kind-of funny, I have a Peanuts book and two Calvin & Hobbes books, and I can’t even read them without imagining them storming through a blighted hellscape a la Mad Max.

Captcha seems to be using a different numbering system for his crosswords, he’s trying to figure out the word for Licech across.

I think Capcha says it all: iplexhi 272

I have a perfectly good reason for being up at this hour. I’m reading the awesomest webcomic on the interwebs – because I’m 9000 words behind target and I just wrote myself into a ginormous plot hole. Go Go Weaponized NaNoWriMo

The very next panel: Calvin gets nasty.

    Round one… FIGHT!

Dr. Capcha has diagnosed Cal’s hand with a lesion complud.

I like how Annie played along to distract Cal

    Fascinating:

In “Ha Ha Herman,” multiple seekers try to find exactly one hidden person. The hidden person’s title is “Herman,” and the seeker who finds Herman shouts “Ha Ha Herman,” announcing to the other seekers that the game is over. Schulz apparently invented this game for the characters to play in the strip.

    & apt.

No words can describe the joy and terror I am feeling right now. Looking forward to round two betwen these two Goliath. Five give ten that Chuck wins (it’s his strip) but it will still be epic.

Is there something wrong with me that this page made my day and I’m smiling and laughing happily right now?

    I’m a whatever-we’re-calling-fans through and through I guess.

What I do want is to have Anne do something to break the damsel in distress image. She’s capable of biting. Even captcha agrees: It’s clear brieren!

    November 18, 2011, 10:47 am | #

Oh shit, it’s on now. I love how Cal’s cockiness did him in. Anne was SO obvious after the skill she showed with that sword earlier, but it just didn’t occur to Cal that she wasn’t just overwhelmed with terror. Idiot. And Chuck, whatever you do, don’t let go!

I can see Cal’s finger in a position that indicates a crushed had.

Unfortunately, when Cal first released from the cryo tank we got to see a demonstration of his quick healing ability. Chuck’s going to have to keep pounding on him until he’s reduced to a mess of goo.

Excellent comic, I just purchased the Atomic Edition.

Matt I was thinking the same thing, that thumb looks WAY out of place (or Jason just drew it wrong…)
regardless, Cal is experiencing something new: FEAR. his tiger/alter ego/imaginary friend is gone and he just got his hand crushed in a surprise attack.
he needs to be ripped to pieces if he’s to be done away with.

    November 18, 2011, 12:44 pm | #

Geek, that’s just what I thought. Either it was pain at suddenly having his hand incorporated directly into his mangled gun, or fear at a suddenly much more dangerous Weapon Brown show up while his tiger was currently discorporated and having the battle turn very much against him. But then I looked at it and said, fuck it, it’s probably both.

And the pay from Weapon’s latest run will be deposited in Account Ivernlyi in the First National Bank of Captcha.

I might be/probably am wrong, but I think that’s the closest I’ve seen to a smile on Chuck’s face since before he faced off with Sarge waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in BW#1 😉

Is Anne’s “I’ll slice your cock off!”
The new “I’ll knock your block off?”

Ann is just brilliant. Thank you for getting Weapon there in time. Where’s Huey and Snoop? Sorry, I have to think these things.

Oh and if you did a t-shirt of that last panel, I would get a boyfriend so I could buy him one. I felt I had to let you know that.

    Love ya, JY.

Is captcha’s “when etsxpr” the same as slippery “when wet”?

I’m betting this is the comic’s, “Hasta la Vista, baby,” moment. Cal’s taken some damage but heals fast and is too strong to be pulled apart. And we’re still waiting for the soul-destroying “Pumpkin Crushes the Little Redheaded Girl” plot twist – who’s it going to be? God, I love the final boss battle!!!

  38. C. Mage
    November 18, 2011, 4:28 pm | #

    Total revenge-gasm.

Somebody better tell the fat lady that she’s on in five. Chuck is going to go thermonuclear on Cal. Cal’s been running on a superiority high for so long, this is going to break him in more ways than one.

Captcha said it best when he determined that the “ngHsion Results” would be dire.

    I wonder if Chuck has a Transmogrifier…

  40. C. Mage
    November 18, 2011, 5:40 pm | #

@Ribald – Yeah, it’s called “his hands” and he’s going to transmogrify Cal into a closed-casket funeral.

This is Captcha, preparing to “nrsign out,” and God bless.

  41. Baughbe
    November 18, 2011, 5:51 pm | #

Annie even smarter than some of you might think. She probably heard Chuck just before Cal could. Hence the reason she was making so much noise clanging around when she knew the layout of that place better than most of the sighted followers. Giving Chuck the chance to get there unheard.

Captcha is taking bets and is being rather generous with the odds of 160-2

Damn, what a money shot! Cal’s broken gun, His broken hand, AGH. His face. That’s the face of someone that knows they can’t stop what’s gonna happen to them, and you just know that absolutely made Chuck’s week to see it.

captcha says to break out the Dangest 155; and be quick before cal ruins the moment begging or pissing himself.

  44. JE Draft
    November 18, 2011, 8:56 pm | #

    So worth it. Oh, yeah.

Captcha says “ntstept.” Cal certainly “stept” in it now.

Reebs — you would deny Chuck the opportunity to put the deepest hurt imaginable on a Syndicate representative? XD

  47. Destruya
    November 19, 2011, 2:50 am | #

Unfortunately I think Cal’s busted hand is going to be shortlived – if he was able to regenerate himself from that tank, I’m guessing he can jazz himself up a new hand.

Unless Hobbes is/*was* a “horcrux”-like device, which is why he felt it when Hobbes bought it.

Came back to see it again. What really got me this time was the 1-2-3 of last Brown panel, Peanuts panel, mouseover text. Perfect.
I’ll miss those Peanuts panels when its all packaged up in garphic-novel format.

[and when will that be? Captcha sez: several onsideon]
[wait maybe that’s how much it’s gonna cost]

Destruya – HOBS was his own weapon, not the source of CAL’s power. I think it was probably the secret way that Lucy used to control him – he can fight through control words, like when Prepé used “asswipe” on him and CAL responded by going into a bit of a trance until it passed. Yet, because he was dependent on HOBS, CAL weaponized it in return to keep himself from being vulnerable.

As for everyone else, CAL’s strong enough to pop men’s heads off with a forward palm strike. Sure, he can be hurt, physically, but there’s a reason he is an “unanswerable weapon” and JY has called him the “baddest guy EVER.” The reason this panel is so brilliant is because he’s setting up whait is what separates true art from the forgettable story. The audience has to feel that the hero has triumphed, but then the villain has to take the hero’s best shot and then raise the stakes even higher, causing true despair to set in and a genuine fear to take place that the worst will happen. Look at the Terminator in the gas truck, or the T-1000 re-emerging from crystallization, or Doomsday matching Superman strike for strike, or Luke beating Vader only to find that he cannot stand against the Emperor, or Indiana Jones having to give the Ark to Belloq.

Chuck is now fully loaded and primed and at the height of his powers, as he had to be for them to have a true showdown. Only once CAL gets the better of that can we have a brilliant and worthy conclusion that distinguishes the characters from each other beyond their merely fighting for different sides. That’s why the end of Return of the Jedi works and the end of Revenge of the Sith doesn’t – normal people don’t have superpowers, and so they have to see emotional strength win the day, not just a deus ex machina or an indestructible hero. You need this kind of nuance for empathy and resonance, otherwise you just have God of War, or Twilight, or a Jason Statham movie. So with JY being an artist and not, presumably, a writer for XXX, I firmly believe this has to get worse for our heroes before it gets better.

Oh shit. Do I have to live up to THAT? I was actually planning on having Chuck shoot laser beams out of his eyes and wrapping this up in three more strips.
