. . .
Hmm, tapeworm, tapeworm…there’s a joke in there about Garfield being a parasite that does nothing but eats and grows, I just know it. Too bad he has no legs to kick Odie off the table though…
I love the fact that the giant tank the shmoo is in looks like an old-fashioned mild container.
Chuck is smiling again!
meow worma meow meow
I wouldn’t want to drink anything that came out of nozzle that looks like that. Eurgh.
And the resulting creature refuses to work on Mondays.
I’m wondering if the Garf will be destroyed by a Syndicate-bred creature designed to be destructive but barely intelligent; some kind of Oblivious Devastation Entity, or O.D.E.

Oh please, PLEASE, work a “Garf minus Garf” reference into the mix.
Anne is looking fine. Interested to see where this is going.
…I still dont get how this is supposed to be humanitys salvation. I mean, the thing will only process stuff after eating, right? Well, obviously, they dont HAVE all that much to feed it. The problem is still the same, the ecosystem is GONE.
hmmm finger bones and teeth. Makes me want to grab a handful. Love Chucks smirk, classic.
@H-M: Like she said, that isn’t just shit. The garf pulls nutrients out of the air and soil somehow, like a really ugly plant. It just eats stuff because, well, it’s Garfield.
Hmm. Living things go in ONE end of the Garf, time passes, and they come out the other end in the form of a warm sticky goo?
Sounds like the dictionary description of shit to me, Annie. Don’t piss in my ear and tell me it’s raining.
Shit is just processed nutrients and bacteria, it just stuff the human body can’t use. Every organism puts out something that’s processed into something else. Plants process carbon dioxide into oxygen, for example.
Besides, when it all boils down to it, it’s just like anything else in the food industry: “If you saw how they made it, you wouldn’t want to eat it.”
Well – not really. Plants process carbon dioxide into plant tissue. The carbon goes into cellulose, starch, sugars, etc. Oxygen is a byproduct. True metabolic wastes tend to get stored in leaves in plants which drop leaves, and diffuse out through roots into the soil in others.
The garf could be some kind of Venus fly trap type of creature. Yes, it does require animal protein, but it also performs photosynthesis and such. So basically, if they feed the garf 100 calories of troglodyte, it puts out 1000 calories of garf-shit. Or something like that.
Beer is yeast pee. Honey is bee barf.
Am I the only one who notices it is Wednesday, and no update?
@punx: no. No!!! Aaaaaaah!!
Oh my god oh my go….Reality setting in. Where’s the update. oh my… Nooooooo….ARGGGGG (running in circles).
Oh chuck… your nonchalant banter is like music to my ears…
And speaking of what I’m hearing it looks like those comments above me are a little chronologically confused! What’s going on, JY? Am I missing something Garfy in todays strip? Or am I just going bonkers?
Sue, captcha sez the odds against you being “bonkers” are roughly 22482438:189 against.
Back in 2010, Update #179 was associated with seeing the Garf do its thing. On this rerun JY did some restructuring of the strips.
Anyway, I like being reminded that Chuck has an actual sense of humor under all that badassery.
