    D’oh!
Too bad Snoop isn’t in there behind him, getting ready to bite his nuts off.

Captcha has a different idea what’s about to happen… he says Cal is about to engage in some hedonistic alzedi…. hummina hummina hummina!

  2. Matthew J. Fazio

GOD DAMN IT. I hate CAL so much– he’s such a weasel with all that running away and not standing up to a straight on fight.

  3. gruaud

    Aw crap.

  4. Steve

    Ah crud

  5. flabajaba2213

Come on headless guy! Surprise us!

  6. Jim

Dammit, I was afraid of that…

  7. Justin

Well, I didn’t see that one coming.

  8. peepants

If Chuck wasn’t gonna rip CAL apart from neck to nuts before, he sure as hell is gonna now.

  9. Orin J.

So, Cal didn’t have the stones for a stand-up fight after all…..

don’t think this won’t come back to haunt him though, when chuck gets him backed into a corner Dr. Captcha’s going to need the entire bottle of idpled 304 for his wounds.

  10. Azure Hart

    Well crap.

I hope Annie at least crushes Cal’s nutts. Even a super powered psycho would have a little trouble committing mayhem when he’s had his groin trampled.

  11. Nostalgia D

    AAAUGH!

  12. Richard

Most epic moment since the Wicked Witch turned over the hour glass and said, “You have this long to live.”

  13. Sherlock_Watson

    Anne, we hardly knew ye.

    Swingannamiss!

It’s the “chuck…” the gets me.

The payoff is going to be sooo worth it.

It isn’t so much that Cal is running from Chuck – it’s that Cal’s primary target is Anne, and Chuck is merely In The Way. Hopefully, Cal is largely depleted of weapons save his strength, whereas Anne still has her staff as well as whatever is hidden in her deceptively small get-up. Let’s see how much damage she can do before Chuck and/or X catches up.

  17. Matthew J. Fazio

My worry for JY writing this– if CAL is so damn fast, how do you “get” him? Snoop missed, X missed, Chuck missed…

  18. pakopako

Everything is so dynamic … and consistent. From the padlock sliding with Cal and the fingers still across Anne’s throat, to the amazing “slow motion run” with the word bubble dangling above. And no humor (like Snoop running into Huey) to take away from the tension. Also, Chuck has a very broad back.

First the little redheaded girl, then Ms. Buxley, now Annie! Women who sleep with Brown don’t last long.

  20. KarlMonster

    Aw, samman jammit evening!

I was really hoping that Pops was in the elevator with ten knuckles; no waiting.

Maybe the union elevator inspectors hate Cal too?

  21. Nelson

    The sneer is gone from Casey’s lip, his teeth are clenched in hate;
He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon the plate.
And now the pitcher holds the ball, and now he lets it go,
And now the air is shattered by the force of Casey’s blow!

    Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright;
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,
    And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout;
But there is no joy in Mudville — mighty Casey has struck out.

  22. Acylglycerol

To be honest, I was expecting this to happen a LOT earlier in the comic.

  23. Gus

    The door’s not closed yet…

  24. theo

    Fuck.

  25. Smik

Hello. Been reading quietly for awhile. Might I make one point here? http://www.whatisdeepfried.com/2010/05/26/weapon-brown-163-2/

Anne knew Brown’s command. She may delay the inevitable.

  26. Sven DiMilo

    oh, I’m good:

I am hoping Jason’s just going for dramatic tension here, because ending this story with revenge porn/the girlfriend in the fridge syndrome would be kind of disappointing, especially after creating such a great female character to be Chuck’s foil.

  28. menschenjaeger

Door’s not closed, true dat, but plasma’ll probably drill right through that door anyway. Chucks bad enough to remember where Cal was standing, and Cal prolly ain’t good enough to think to move. Don’t think that’s how it’s going to play out, but that’s how I’D play it if I were Chuck. I think Smik’s got the right idea – we’ve been waiting for his single-use code word to pop up… I can’t imagine JY putting a gun on the mantelpiece in the first act if he’s never going to fire it. “Chuck…” HM, what’s she gonna say after that ellipsis? I wonder… (it’s probably not going to be “vapor ttinimu” cos that makes NO sense). Here’s hoping Van Pelt wasn’t feeling terribly original when she did her number on Cal.

  29. menschenjaeger

Aw, crap, wait… http://www.whatisdeepfried.com/2011/04/18/weapon-brown-227/ Cal HAD to hear that… Looks like we’ll all just have to hold our collective breath in the SUALCL INTERIM.

  30. sentroller

couldn’t chuck just press the button and have the doors open again?

  31. punx

Wonder if we might find that without Hobbes, Cal isn’t all that and a bag of chips, and Anne isn’t going to die just yet?

  32. guy

Hey JY, fuck you for making such an awesome comic. I’m supposed to be asleep, ya talented jerk!

Seriously though, this is great stuff. I’d like to think that even Schultz and Watterson, while naturally having to object strongly on principle, would end up with full Weapon Brown runs mysteriously landing in their mailboxes – in plain brown wrappers, of course.

I watched, the man is true to his word.

Am I the only one who’s rooting for C.A.L?
