Weapon Brown 264

UPDATE 10/17/11: A little family matter out of town compels me to move this week’s strip schedule up to Wednesday/Friday. Don’t hate me because I’m dutiful.

so badass. best comic out there. syndicated and online.

  2. lkjlskjf

I like JY’s attention to detail. It’s phenomenal. I had forgotten Snoop had been shot and went to the O.R.

  3. Jim

CAL is about to flip the fuck out.

  4. Steve

AH! Most badass destruction of a stuffed animal EVER!

  5. jimmy hoffa

something tells me that that’s not truly hobbes. like, that hobbes is an extension of cal, so there will be another. and another after that. et c.

  6. Luke

Hmm, on the one hand, Snoop is a badass, but still, that was a quick way for HOBS to go. I’m hoping this isn’t the end of him. :(

  7. lkjlskjf

@Jimmy Hoffa – nice. that would complicate things

I like how in the first panel hobbes looks like he is still alive and in the second panel he raises a paw to protect himself.

  8. KiZeR

If Cal could produce Hobbs on his own, his first demand after being activated wouldn’t have been “Where’s my Tiger?” He’s done.

  9. MediaDuke

I clicked the “head ripped right the fuck off” tag and was disappointed that this was the only page with that tag. Hopefully, this is rectified in the future because that is the BEST TAG EVER.

  10. Jasline

So wait, Hobbes ate those kids whole and ate probably a bunch of other things… So what, did they just turn to stuffing?

    … That’s kinda messed up.

  11. Red

I am probably the only guy who will say this, but I feel a shread of pity for HOBS. Not HOBS the killing machine that slaughtered endless innocents, but the HOBS that was bonded and became the only friend to a kid brought up to kill in a world full of hate.
It wouldnt surprise me if CAL just kind of shuts down after seeing his only friend go.
    I honestly wouldn’t blame him.
After all, how much life would Chuck have if Snoop didn’t survive his injuries?

  12. Justin

I am OK with this, as I found this post-apocalyptic version of Calvin to be a total jerk.

  13. Rachael

@lkjlskjf: That just made it really sad for me. Sure he was a monster but he was only doing it for C.A.L.- C.A.L. is an asshole but everyone has that one friend that’s there no matter what thier buddy has gotten himself into.

I think Hobbs and Snoop could have been friends under different circumstances.

  14. Bartleby

This comic is so fucking awesome…I have wood the size of Florida right now.

    -Bartleby

  15. mdc

    @Jasline -

It’s kind of messed up that a 12\ stuffed tiger can turn into a 12′ tiger-cyborg.

But then, anything can happen in these here comics!

Captcha’s hawking a new deodorant from the Garfield collection: \odiestop perspiration\

  16. Spastic Colon

    I love this comic.

  17. Man-Thing

Wow. He’s half way to fulfilling the prophecy I posted on the last past.

  18. mudfoot

Well since HOBS was a Heuristically Optimized Bonding Surrogate constructed out of psycho sensitive-matter reorganized by CAL’s exo-nervous system, I’d say all the people he ate were already burned as fuel for the nannies. You can’t run something like that on kibbles and bits.

A Heuristically Optimized Bonding Surrogate sounds like it was a teaching device they used after Van Pelt took over conditioning. If it was Psycho Sensitive, it could have been used as a point of torture on a subject otherwise invulnerable to most other forms of stimulation.

Which probably explains why he eventually learned to control the HOBS with his external nervous system (nannies), and reorganize it into a weapon. Only chuck got to Van Pelt first…

  19. jess

I’m just happy that Snoop is smart enough not to rip the head off the fallen villain.
And yeah, I’ve always thought JY could milk each scene for more.
    captcha: 7,000 llobjob? that looks… dirty…

  20. Matthew J. Fazio

I just had my second nerdgasm.

Thank you, JY, for bringing out the truly twisted in me.

  21. A.P.

I feel a sadness but also have an erection.

    I am a bad person.

  22. agentsarahjane

I think the lesson here is that if you fuck with Snoop he will fuck your shit up

  23. C. Mage

So, JY, did I see it coming, or did I inspire you in some small way?

    Either way makes me smile.

JY: Sorry C. Mage. I am just that predictable.

  24. Katy

What A.P. said. Except I just have a metaphorical erection.

  25. Nick

I’m shocked nobody got the Survivor reference here. JY, you so crafty. Shocked you didn’t put it as a tag though.

Captcha said that willette was the actual author of “Eye of the Tiger”, not Survivor.

  26. Max Headroom

    I love this comic.

  27. Junii

I can see a run of t-shirts and mugs… a snoop smiling and tail wagging and Hob’s head in his jaws…

and the Caption “My Dog… NOT for sale”

  28. lkjslkdfj

    @Nick: explain further, please

@Max Headroom: Me too. Best comic there ever was.

  29. Juanski

Captcha sat back in its chair for awhile, stroked its chin and meditated on HOBS’s death.
It breathed a deep sigh and said: Seems uroplow

  30. MarvoDaMighty

HMM, considering Hobbes is a psychic Manifestation made by Cal. This is not over, Its feels like the end of the Soprano’s

  31. Josh

Ah… so long, HOBS. Hate to see you go, you were all sorts of terrifying and awesome.

  32. Richard

It seems the subtext here is that Hobbes was a contender for best anthropomorphic animal ever on the daily comics page, but in the end, Snoopy is king. Perhaps the next adversary is Far Side cow?

  33. Nick

@lkjslkdfj Take a close look at HOBS eye in panel number 2. See the Tiger Teeth in the reflection of his eye? It’s subtle, but it’s there.

The Captcha is on a hunt for the Mexican Nigerian prince Gonzales Ngdoens.
P.S. Dahell is with the upsidedown wavy Captcha stuff??

  34. Acylglycerol

    He dead.

  35. mrgrooism

Nick, those are a reflection of Snoop’s teeth. HOBS is done!

  36. C. Mage

    To paraphrase Jim Croce,

“Well the two pets took to fightin’, and when Snoop was fully done, Calvin’s HOBS looked like a jigsaw puzzle, with a few hundred pieces gone.”

  37. Baughbe

But remember children the lesson of Linus’s blanket. There is one very small point of vulnerability with these monsters from the ID. The question remains, did Snoop actually hit that point or not?

Captcha is so surprised it had to censor itself. An actual black bar over the word. I guess I have to cuss for it.

  38. Mordecai

Chuck’s world will be a lot richer if CAL and HOBS remain out there. To be honest, I kind of like them a little better anyway, but that may be my old fondness for Watterson’s work seeping in.

  39. Orin J.

and all that’s left is the main event! i’m so hard right now i could hatefuck an engineblock.

the question is, will cal be able to scoop up hobbs’ guts on the way out, or will he be too bust pulling his teeth out his own asshole?

captcha’s advice for snoop is to take hobbes remains and make plestos, which seems a bit barbaric even for this strip.

  40. KarlMonster

    @ J.Y.
    Panel #2 is so cool… um… it’s so cool that… uh…
    Oh, I’ve got it.
It’s so cool that its like a cat licking a handgun.

And that would like, amazing, if something like that ever happened.

  41. Chyll Will

No in-fighting I guess. Anything can happen. But seeing HOBS struggle at the end still makes me a little sad, even a little sympathetic. Never mind that he was beyond cruel in his “live” manifestation. I’m just conflicted I guess because I can’t put myself in either one’s shoes (it is an intense post-apocalypse, after all). Maybe a portend to Cal’s demise; nothing but a very sad spectacle in the making.

  42. C.B.

Best possible outcome for my tastes would be to see Chuck beat the hell out of CAL, thinking he’s killed him, maybe putting a couple extra ventilation ports in him, they abandon the base, and we get a cutscene panel to where Chuck left CAL lying in a pool of his own blood. No CAL, but a nice, wide, blood smear where he was dragging himself away…

Captcha agrees that this is a Wise nevelob.

  43. C. Mage

@JY: Sorry C. Mage. I am just that predictable.

On what PLANET would that be true????

  44. Gus

OK, sure, we can think of ways he could come back, but that comic looks pretty final to me. I think HOBS is gone. I think CAL will be weakened by this, but also enraged. He’s be like a cornered rat, highly dangerous, but also vulnerable.

@Baughbe Perhaps Capthca is attempting to decipher redacted CIA documents. Try “Cheney Waterboard”

  45. Richard

Recalling what Chuck did to Crock, I dread to see Cal’s fate…

  46. C. Mage

    @Richard

YOU may dread it, but as soon as I realize Cal’s fate is rendered, I’m popping some popcorn just before viewing it. And I will continue to view it until I run out of popcorn.

Then I will pop MORE popcorn.

  47. King Ploobis

    Game…
    Set…
    Match.

  48. John

I have no sympathy for HOBs the murderous cyborg, but the helpless puffball paw held up in self-defense does make me feel sad.

The monster became like a child or kitten just before he died.

That said, brilliant metamorphosis! The fangs baring through the webs of cloth face are extra creepy.

  49. MarkL

I don’t think HOBS is coming back, and I’m excited to see how HOBS’s death affects CAL.
Damn you Nick for making me read the “Eye of the Tiger” lyrics. I still don’t see the reference (aside from there being an actual eye of a tiger in the strip).

  50. Olentzero

I… don’t wanna piss on everybody’s cornflakes here, but it sure as fuck looks like his TAIL is getting ripped off in Panel 4.

  51. Sven DiMilo

    olentzero:
    check the tags.
    That’s an ear.

    Hey, here: want some cornflakes?

  52. Olentzero

-squints- Oh yeah, I guess I can see it now. Sure looked like a tail, though. Even despite what the tag says.

  53. lkjslfkj

Damn you JY!!! No update until Weds. Hope your mom is feeling better!

  54. sentroller

Great Job YJ, saw Hobs demise coming but still cool to see it.

Has there ever been a mention of how chuck and Snoop came together? Maybe at some point a Snoop Origin could be done. Aside from his bad ass-ness and that he has some family (Likely dead now) we know very little about the dog at Chucks side, kinda like the 80′s Wolverine. On second thought ignore this rant, I don’t want to see a good character ruined Again.

  55. llkjsldkfj

@sentroller, check back when Snoopy was shot. It had all his dead brothers chasing Snoopy. Gives some insight into Snoop.

  56. Hogan

Caught up in one stretch… most awesome comic in newer times!!

JY: Thanks Hogan. Get some rest after all that reading.

  57. Bartleby

Chuck got Snoop from the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm.

  58. Junii

    @ Bartleby
    Money/volts F*$king well spent.

  59. Narwhal_6

Me personally, I’m leaning more toward the “C.A.L will flip right the fuck out” school of thought on this one. I figure he and the HOBS unit are emotionally bonded too, and without that big old chunk of C.A.L’s gestalt around, C.A.L is just going to lose it all over everything in the immediate vicinity. Killing HOBS may well have made C.A.L even more dangerous than previous. Good thing Weapon Brown’s got Old Sparky back…I get the feeling he’s going to need it.

  60. xmrhyde

@ Bartleby: don’t remember if JY has touched on Snoop’s point of origin, but I hope if he did it would no doubt involve the Daisy Hill Animal Warfare Research Center.

  61. JY

Bartleby: I DO, in fact, have an idea for a Chuck-meets-Snoop shorty. If I get a publisher to take on the graphic novel, I may add that to the finished product.

This Captcha is For Jedtho. Give ‘em hell, Jedtho.

  62. Gus

You’re clearly awake, JY. Where’s my damn update?
