John is still alive after Garfield mutated into a giant worm monster and agrees to eat shmoo. Sucks to be him. Ironically the capcha said “log treat”

Luann is looking good!
October 20th, 2010 at 1:32 am
I’m suprised the little girl from Non Sequitor is on the good guy’s team.
October 20th, 2010 at 2:09 am
Is that Edda with the three teats?
October 20th, 2010 at 2:13 am
Whoa, I can totally recall a lot of these characters!
TOMORRROW! TOMORROW! I HATE THAT TOMORROW, THE NEXT UPDATE IS FIVE DAYS AWAY!
October 20th, 2010 at 6:03 am
So… many… references… OMG!
If I had to choose the best, I guess I’d go with the flounder-boy from Curtis down there. It’s just right, but so damn wrong!

They’re all going to die, aren’t they?
October 20th, 2010 at 9:40 am
\Bet your bottom dollar\, hahaha. The young/old For Better or Worse couple is a good one.
October 20th, 2010 at 10:31 am
Woo hoo! You got the young/old visual reference! Hooray! I can draw and communicate ideas visually!

Scratching my head a bit over Luann “Three Cans” Degroot.
October 20th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Trying to figure out who “Uncle Dust” is, and getting nothing. Anybody got any ideas?
– Captcha demands “thravale respect” from everybody here!
October 20th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Nancy *is* Sluggo?
I’m surprised that three is just as sexy as two…

Could be..!

I’m surprised no one has picked up on the Katzenjammer Kids, aka Kuato…
October 20th, 2010 at 5:59 pm
BTW, I like Junior Tracy’s tat…

I like how Andy Capp doesn’t look that much different as a mutant. Must have been all of those hot fries

Weapon Brown is usually so much fun to look at. You see a character and laugh at their design, and then you take a second look at say “So THAT’S who that guy is!” This panel is just delightful.
After Annie mentioned her father and his health, I’m now picturing Daddy W. in a wheelchair, looking like Prof. Xavier.
Poor Jon looks like he has some sort of thyroid problem there…

Katzenjammer Kids being Kuato means that Luann having 3 cans is likely in aid of a Total Recall reference.

The bi-cyclops in the front keeps throwing my mind back into MAD realms.
October 21st, 2010 at 7:51 pm
@Baughbe: the \bi-clops\ is Gunk from \Curtis\.
Other than that, I only recognize Jon Arbuckle, and Danae from Non Sequiter (awesome, if bizzare, comic), and Someone from Gasoline Alley… I think. The guy in the plaid cap behind Danae looks familiar, but i just can NOT place him!

@Al: I saw it but at the same time, by this point almost nothing I see on a page of WB surprises me much anymore, not a bad thing, just an observation….it is quite creepy and yet it fits into the general overall Strip society….More scene to see and faces to recognize Monday LOL

Herman!
Also, Andy Capp is going to kick some ass. I can feel it. he has the look of a dirty fighter in the highest regard.
October 22nd, 2010 at 6:20 am
Some sorta combination thing going on here, Andy Capp is holding Flo’s rolling pin – possibly they are combined as Nancy and Sluggo seem to be. No idea why Dondi is combined with Nick Fury…
October 22nd, 2010 at 2:30 pm
I have a strange feeling Andy finally got sick of Flo’s harassment.
October 23rd, 2010 at 7:38 am
Who’s the guy with the long nose and no eyes, just in front of Andy Capp?
October 23rd, 2010 at 9:11 am
@Jor
re: Big Daddy
Chances are, it’s much worse than that.
October 23rd, 2010 at 1:26 pm
@NightRaven: That is Herman…
October 23rd, 2010 at 1:27 pm
@NightRaven
Herman.
So, have any of you noticed just how cryptic the Captcha’s have become? It’s really getting hard to find one to joke with! Time was that something hilarious like “Lucien’s Balls” was no more than three reloads away. Now you’re lucky to be able to read the damn Captcha, much less get words in modern english! If this keeps up I’ll just have to shut the whole site down. The Captcha puzzles are my number one draw, you know.

October 23rd, 2010 at 3:11 pm
@JY: NOT FUNNY, Sir…..
October 24th, 2010 at 1:06 pm
@JY: The diversity of the captchas these days I think I discussed in a previous update, I think that the new way of keeping spambots from being able to read them audibly to crack them…..as I also said, some of them have umlauts and stuff, but it seems as long as you’re close, it works….
October 24th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
Gah! Can’t wait
October 25th, 2010 at 12:11 am
Can someone please explain the young/old for better or worse? I only see Elly and John who are both old looking.
New Weapon Brown tomorrow!
October 25th, 2010 at 12:50 am
Having been tracked down at my house blog to explain the young/old thing, I’ll just say that Elly is young on the left and old on the right, while John is young on the right and old on the left. The joke being that FBoW started when they were young, then they were old, but then they went rerunning to the young state.
Frankly, I haven’t paid much attention to newsprint comics for a long time indeed, so I’m always happy when I get a reference. If it wasn’t carried in the Indy Star or the New Castle Courier-Times or the Richmond Palladium-Item up to about 1986, I don’t know much about it. My grandmother used to wrap presents in the Sunday funnies – and later, when I went to Europe, she’d save them all up for me and either mail me funny paper care packages or wait until I came home for them.
Back in the day, we all thought Garfield was pretty damn funny. Then, in the late 90′s, I hit Sluggy Freelance and never looked back. Even wrote my own comic for a while (I wrote it in XML and compiled it with a Perl script invoking ImageMagick – predictably, it was pretty obscure, but I enjoyed it). But I never really needed paper comics after that.
Weapon Brown is like a time machine to my child-self. It’s a real trip.
October 25th, 2010 at 12:54 am
@CWR – Andy isn’t holding the rolling pin – there’s another long-necked person next to him, presumably Flo herself.
October 25th, 2010 at 11:45 am
JY: Actually, many captcha systems these days incorporate a filter for “nasty” things.
October 25th, 2010 at 12:05 pm
Keeps getting better and better
Love the FBOFW parody
