Snoopy, passive aggressiveness at it’s best.
September 13th, 2010 at 12:12 am
Pissing. Calvin. So much win.
September 13th, 2010 at 12:21 am
Cal needs to work his glutes and hamstrings. No wonder he can barely stand upright when he pees…
Great job on the reveal, though!
September 13th, 2010 at 12:35 am
Epic. There is no better word. And it took two passes before I realized the classic non-sanctioned pose on all those back windows all these years…..and I already see Wednesday’s update as if it somehow appeared to me in a…..dream, that’s the ticket!
And yet, the face does bear a somewhat passing resemblance to Chuck, a speculation wondered about in a previous update discussion if I am not mistaken…..
Again, EPIC, amazing what a reveal can show without showing a GODDAMN THING, eh?
September 13th, 2010 at 12:46 am
Oh, wait, there’s more…
The overlapping offscreen carnage commentary….I’d bet JY could easily have drawn a frame showing it all with the comments in the same place, like the April Fool’s update…and like I said about revealing without showing, tell me you didn’t kind of “see” what was happening anyway, right? I do feel bad for Snookie, all he wanted was something soft and didn’t smell like roadkill (note small k, m’lord), and now he, well, is roadkill (again, small m, m’lord), ain’t he?
The flies, significance anyone? Somewhat recognize them but not sure, by now have impressed upon myself annotated version of WB might be bigger than WB itself LOL because seemingly details EVERYWHERE
Packing (new) bowl, signing off……
September 13th, 2010 at 12:53 am
Oh, Jesus Yungbluth, I meant small r’s OMFG
September 13th, 2010 at 1:36 am
I’m not sure how I feel about those MegaMan boots.

Calvin’s most iconic pose – and naturally, like anything Calvin does, never sanctioned by the proper authority. XDD
September 13th, 2010 at 2:11 am
Mixed feelings… because although this is very clever, and it did make me laugh, I really, really hate those stupid stickers with Calvin pissing on a pop culture reference. Not because Bill Watterson had the artistic integrity to refuse to merchandise his work, but because those stickers are unfunny, weaksauce, and don’t have a single thing to do with the comic… and yet they STILL manage to steal the thunder from something a billion times better. The pissing kid could be anybody; it just happens to be Calvin. It’s not a Calvin reference, it’s a urine reference. To think that many people associate such an amazing character’s “most iconic pose” with something that doesn’t even have anything to do with him is sad… especially since you can flip open any Calvin & Hobbes book to a random page and find him doing something funnier than that.

Beautiful. That is all. ^_^
September 13th, 2010 at 3:59 am
Jy, you need to learn how to draw legs, seriously.. he looks like he has no muscle tone what so ever in that position it looks like the legs they was done really fast compared to his other parts of his body that you normally do so damn well and i know that you are really good artist, but this one.. looks rushed,
and finally you show his face which kinda looks like chuck from that way you drew him.
i am sorry if being nagger i just think it could been done a lot better with your skill and talent that you shown us
September 13th, 2010 at 3:59 am
FINALLY, a proper use for the pissing Calvin image.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:32 am
Ahhhh man…. it’s on now!!!!!!!!!!! No more reruns. Fresh Weapon Brown this WEdnesday. Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait. Fuck them up Hobbs. Awesome arc.. love the punchline in the last frame. Go Chuck, Go Calv!
September 13th, 2010 at 8:34 am
Watterson was awesome. JY is also awesome.
September 13th, 2010 at 9:02 am
I like the Judge Parker reference. When’s he going to show up? Maybe as a Judge Dredd type?
September 13th, 2010 at 11:16 am
I wish I could read more of that graffiti, but the shading makes it difficult. :/

@Spiff
Like it or not, Calvin’s underground identity as a bootleg decal has become part of his legend. All the more so because it is the only Calvin merchandise ever generated.
…
The assassin known only as Captcha lowered his silencer-equipped Baretta until the barrel touched Montoya’s temple.
“Asheetin Christus,” the killer hissed.
Montoya sucked air through gritted teeth. “What, you think you’re a Boondock Saint or some–”
The bullet entered Montoya’s skull, played with his brains a little bit, then exited through his ear.
“Why does everyone I kill think I’m ripping from the Boondock Saints?” Captcha murmered “I think I need to see that film.”
September 13th, 2010 at 12:41 pm
I love looking for hidden references in the backgrounds, but this time it’s really hard to do because of the polka-dot “shading.” Here’s what I can pick out:
– Fusco Brothers (Axel)
– Flash Gordon (“Nuke Mongo”)
– Judge Parker
That’s it.
Can anyone else read the rest of it? And where are those bees from?
– Captcha is in charge of an imaginary vehicle: “granctil conductor,”
September 13th, 2010 at 12:47 pm
@Jim and @DarkMyste, re. CALv1N’s legs:
Guys with muscular upper bodies and narrow lower bodies seems to be a style a lot of people draw, so it really isn’t out of place; take a look at the comic book character Tom Strong, for example.
– And now for a partial score from the Captcha Bowl: faviders 89.
September 13th, 2010 at 2:03 pm
Oh.
My.
God.
September 13th, 2010 at 3:08 pm
Pardon me if I use net-slang, but this is so full of win and awesome.
…should have sent…a poet.
September 13th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
yeah the flies … or are they bees? … are banging on the bell of my brain’s memory, but just can’t seem to place ‘em …
-
After a night of knocking back enough whisky to drown a dog, Mr. Captcha tried fruitlessly to recite the Jabberwocky: “Twas frilly and the blithely scognes…” he slurred, then fell face-first into the pool table.
September 13th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Funny. Those flies remind me of a cross between the Suda51 (game company) mascot and the Honey Cheerio’s bee.
I am a bit curious at what text the gradation shading is hiding though. I can make out “no *** sherlock” above the can, below the penii.
ratient isGoeze,
Ah, some of media’s most iconic images never happened. Take a look at quotes such as “Beam me up, Scotty” and “Play it again, Sam.”
September 13th, 2010 at 8:21 pm
I like the “happiness is a warm hump” graffiti
September 13th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Note children how he is careful to aim for the middle of the bowl. That way he won’t leave a wet seat for the next patron. (being that the seat is missing and only the rim is left) How else can we make our world a better place by emulating Calvin? How about you Jason. What other lesson can we take from this picture?
September 13th, 2010 at 10:08 pm
Best. Satire. EVER!!!
September 13th, 2010 at 11:43 pm
@DarkMyste, all of the real Calvin’s limbs were pretty much noodles. I’d say it looks about right…
September 14th, 2010 at 12:03 am
@Pinoles “Are we bees or are we flies? No more lies! No more lies!”
September 14th, 2010 at 11:05 am
@sherlock i understand what you are saying but, the legs are to narrow like they have no muscle to them what so ever, i can understand position and drawing to degree of the legs but if the legs look underdeveloped like when calv1n came out stasis that i can understand due being inactive for so long but you got remember his body regenerated as with his legs when he yelled ” where is my tiger” you can see his legs..
this doesn’t show any muscle even in that position the under side of his legs would have shown a curve like the one on the side of his legs.
September 14th, 2010 at 11:15 am
The bugs upon which ye all speculate are taken from a cartoon, part of a funny animal strip that Bill Watterson pitched before Calvin and Hobbes. They don’t have any names.
Captcha economic forecast: Purchasing Strong
September 14th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
It’s pretty much impossible to see, but could that graffiti on the back wall read “No shit Slylock” as in Bob Weber Jr’s classic vulpine detective?
September 14th, 2010 at 4:34 pm
[...] device of obscuring the rival’s face until that perfect moment of the big reveal. Well, that moment is now. This reveal is especially awesome if you’re a fan of comic strips, Bill Watterson, trademark [...]
September 14th, 2010 at 5:56 pm
There wasn’t any sound but the sound of our feet.
Our machine gun’s ready to go.
Sgt. Captcha squinted at me as if to say, Are you ready for this?
We were hanging on by the edge of our seat.
Just then out of the doorway, the bullets ripped to the sound of the beat.
Sgt Captcha motioned his fingers walking across the palm of his hand and said:
Lopez Hillo.
I don’t think he even knew I spoke English.
September 14th, 2010 at 11:58 pm
@JY: see, you have honed us to look for and find details, and nameless or not, they relate in a direct way, just as most/all of the references you have snuck in, most of which we probably don’t get, but have no bearing on the story as a whole…and in a few minutes, the Wednesday reveal!
I hope, I don’t know if I can stay up much longer anyway LOL
September 15th, 2010 at 12:17 am
Well, as a last comment before moving on, I’ll speculate in this way:
The reason Cal may have a passing resemblance to Chuck might be like the t-800 vs. t-1000, newer model of what got them to the dance, so to speak, the Syndicate simply took the raw materials of Chuck and crafted Cal from what Chuck once was, back before Doc Van Pelt’s programming started breaking down…but with a whole other programming laid over it that meshes with HOBBES in awful ways (obviously), I do not think it is outside the realm of chance this may not end well for anyone, ergo why JY is saying this is the last WB story…..but Stephen King said he was retiring when he finally completed the Dark Tower series, and he’s still writing, when he obviously doesn’t have to, so I take it with a grain of salt LOL
September 15th, 2010 at 12:25 am
And in direct contradiction of myself:
The exchange starting with KILL YOU and the gunfire on the right side all the way down to the BWAUGGGH! is all Snake Eyes, correct, JY?
September 15th, 2010 at 1:03 am
New WB tomorrow. Can’t wait.
September 15th, 2010 at 1:07 am
@Punx
Well, Pasquale was armed too. You can write the excitement for yourself.
September 15th, 2010 at 5:50 am
“Artistic integrity.” HA! Artistic naivete is more like it. The fool squandered opportunity after opportunity to make millions off his own work with t-shirts and stuffed Hobbes toys.
Moral high ground sounds nice on paper, but has no place in the real world. Fairy tale “Ethics” ain’t gonna pay the bills.
September 15th, 2010 at 8:31 am
@Tadak
I’m pretty sure he made million$ anyway. The rich can afford high morals, and the poor only wish they came up with a salable idea. The hacks make parodies.
September 15th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
@JY: you do have a point, m’lord…as I mentioned, without the actual picture we are kind of left to suggest mentally, and since it does look like HOBBES is laying in the remnants of Pasquale (thought the hair looked familiar), and of course you know what actually happened off-frame anyway, right?
Though I am commenting here, I also see where Jimbo made his last stand by his head low left of frame in the new update, right?
September 15th, 2010 at 10:17 pm
@JY/Tadak: The fact is, there was sanctioned merchandise; the collected versions….if I am not mistaken, they were among the first of their type, where you could have a whole bunch of them in one place versus the clippings on the fridge, for instance.
From the original trade softcovers to the hardbound complete collection that got put out a few years ago, the residuals he gets from those of us who still have fond memories of C&H and the new fans who have been turned on by us vets….yes, he could have made billions if he just decided to sell out per se, but he made big money just from his distributors/newspaper syndicates
, and then from the early collected editions. And since he didn’t seem to have a coke habit or a predilection for hookers, I’m sure he was able to put his money in investments and simplified his life to the most essential things, and has more than enough money that he never has to work again EVER.
My favorite explanation for how to stay rich: “Don’t spend your money!”
Just because you can buy a $200,000 car doesn’t mean you HAVE to!
September 17th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
@Punx: Not even CLOSE to the first of their type; Peanuts had been doing it at least since the 60s and somewhere around I’ve got collections of Tumbleweeds, BC, and Dennis the Menace (hey, nobody said I had great taste as a kid, though believe it or not BC was occasionally funny back before it started trying to have a Message) from the early 1970s.
And, as a slick see-gyu from that, I think “Happiness is a -rm -mp” is equally likely to be finished by “wa- du-”, based on its location.
September 17th, 2010 at 5:20 pm
@Bob: I was mistaken, but I guess in my memory that was the first strip to come out in collected form that wasn’t from the previous generation such as Peanuts…
And strangely enough I immediately thought of “wa- gi-” myself, though you do make a point of the location making it more likely…..

Is that Rude Dog I see on the wall just above Cal’s head?
