“He plays rough”-That’s from the Calvin and Hobbes where Calvin brings Hobbes to school and wants him to maul the bully, Moe. He tries to get Moe to take Hobbes, and he says “Hobbes plays rough, but he’s lots of fun” (or something like that). Then Moe thinks a teacher is watching, so he won’t take Hobbes. But Calvin and Hobbes think it’s because Moe is scared of Hobbes.
Oh, and I’m very excited to see Hobbes in action here.

In “Tumbleweeds” Snookie isn’t soft in the head, he’s only 12 years old. He’s just developmentally, um, advanced because he gestated for 18 months.
I’m not so sure he deserves what he’s probably going to get. He seems kind of sweet-natured.
September 8th, 2010 at 12:33 am
I am waiting for a sudden change in Hobs body similar to blanket.
Hopefully, he’ll eviscerate everyone in the place apart from Rose, Pasquale, and Jimbo.
That way, Cal can walk in, sit down at the counter, and ask where his chili is like nothing happened, while all of the survivors are scared shitless.

Flab: “Survivors”. Ha. Good one.
September 8th, 2010 at 6:23 am
Was Snake-Eye deliberately designed to look like Danny Trejo, or was that an accident? Because either way it’s great.
And I love that Snookie is still wearing his sailor’s cap. With the ribbon.
September 8th, 2010 at 6:32 am
@TheArchitect Nice job building suspense. I feel my mind going already.
September 8th, 2010 at 7:49 am
I think the teaser image from a month or so ago is about to make its storyline appearance….I see the jaws on Hobbes opening up and swallowing poor Snookie’s head like a jalapeno popper….followed by Snake-Eye’s hand with the revolver in it…and MeatShield, hadn’t taken notice of the resembalnce, but you might be right, even if it was accidental…..
Hey, JY, any chance we good little Blockheads can get a Friday update, just because this is too good to have to wait alll the way to Monday to see more of it?
(Yeah, I know, if I have to ask, it won’t happen, but a Blockhead can dream, right?)
September 8th, 2010 at 7:50 am
@Richard: You might be right, but this is Weapon Brown, not Tumbleweeds, brother….:)
September 8th, 2010 at 8:13 am
To correct myself, that teaser image is from a month and a half ago, and as I look more deeply into the image, I see Snookie’s face, not sure if it’s his whole head, under a counter seat, and Snake Eye’s faceless body in a stall toward rear right of frame…I also think Rosie’s hand is also visible on the counter
September 8th, 2010 at 9:58 am
Stop trying to figure out what’s going to happen. Just savor the suspense.
September 8th, 2010 at 11:24 am
I spy a Dominic Deegan reference in there.

The cockroach in the penultimate panel! I never know the names of newspaper comics, because I only read them when I find one someplace where I have nothing else to do, but that cockroach is a newspaper comic character. I’m thinking his name is something really creative, like La Cucaracha.
Also, I’m figuring Hobbes is just like in the strip – imaginary. Cal is going to eviscerate everybody and imagine it’s Hobbes eating them.
Captcha has forgotten how to spell, even with the University. implace.
September 8th, 2010 at 12:52 pm
Also, what’s the roadkill? It has a little diamond on its forehead.
September 8th, 2010 at 12:55 pm
Also: “Death from above”. Hahahaha!
September 8th, 2010 at 1:23 pm
Michael: The roadkill is more than likely Peekaboo, the family cat, from Rose is Rose.
September 8th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
Him not gonna be soft for long. Of course, we probably won’t see the actual slaughter, because JY is saving HOBS’ big transformation scene for the final battle. Most likely, CALv1N will walk back in after the tiger makes cat food out of everyone, and him will be soft again.
– Captcha: IN yuliner.
September 8th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Great line…”he plays rough” cannot wait to see the outcome of this though I bet it is pretty predictable. Go H.O.B.
September 8th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
The roadkill couldn’t be…Roadkill, could it?
September 8th, 2010 at 5:51 pm
I can’t wait to see the page where Hobbes turns into a robot tiger monstrosity and murders everyone
September 8th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
This might be a little thing, but can we get the tags back under the comics? I enjoy the lampooning of the funny pages, but my memory regarding some of these comics is a little dim since I read them in my uncle’s collection when I was but a boy.
September 8th, 2010 at 8:52 pm
@Richard: NO
Since I have been given foresight, I am just trying to connect the dots, as it were….
September 8th, 2010 at 9:14 pm
Awesome. Only one more update before fresh Brown. Monday will be a rerun, and then next wedsneday it is all new. So awesome.
September 8th, 2010 at 11:32 pm
@lkjsdfkljlkj: on what are you basing that statement re: reruns?
September 9th, 2010 at 1:53 am
I’m with Sherlock–Jaws me, Jason. Don’t show the shark until the end…maybe not ever, if you think you can get away with it.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:33 am
Alexander: I am absolutely certain that isn’t Roadkill. If there is one character that would not change ONE IOTA between his regular world and the Weapon Brown universe it would be him.
I’ll wager we won’t see him in the main storyline, but a panel or two of him in an epilogue would be stellar (and well deserved, Jason. You’ve put a fuckton of work into this and your OCs have earned a place among them
)
September 9th, 2010 at 3:54 am
i cant wait to see how the Hobbes activates since calvin is not there.
September 9th, 2010 at 3:59 am
And that “road kill” is infact peekaboo from the comic i just noticed the diamond in the middle of the forehead.
poor peekaboo.
aww well now all we need to see is jimbo and the archangel, i wonder when hobbes activates will it kill the 2 idiots and then go looking for calvin or just sit there eating the road kill
September 9th, 2010 at 10:57 am
Yes! Peekaboo it is!
Knowing Jason, the hot chili is Jimbo.
Captcha said drathily, “It is a strange thing to see in Captcha land.” (When did reCaptcha start using words that aren’t even words? Drathily? Really?)
September 9th, 2010 at 12:35 pm
@Mikey: Last page, Rose tells Jimbo to get the chili hot, so he is the chili COOK, not the chili itself LOL
And as for Captcha wordweirdness, I assume it’s so new spambots to crack them have a harder time reading them, I guess…..though honestly, I’m not sure I even as a human type it right, so I am guessing it allows as close to what’s there (had an umlaut on one recently) even if it does look like Martian sometimes
example: porditi Hetruriae, but the last two letters are blended like old time type, and there’s no way to do that typing, but since my comment is here……

@SW & xmrhyde: sorry, but he already did, 3 years ago

Try this:

And yes, I remember that preview, but when do you suppose JY will actually show HOBS as a killing machine here in “Weapon Brown”? That’s what I was pondering in my earlier post.
– Captcha is wondering if someone is standing in quicksand: mansink or.
September 9th, 2010 at 2:08 pm
@SW: yeah, you have a point, in xmrhyde’s case he probably didn’t realize there is a preview of sorts there…and we just may not see him do his thing this go-round, I think all of it happens while Cal’s in the head, and we walk back into…..well, you know what I’m talking about…
September 9th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
I’m just wondering if the last panel is a forced perspective error or if it’s teh CAL transforming into H.O.B.S.
I remember Dilbert telling Chairman Horns about how CaL’s suit began to morph H.O.B.S.
Would be deliciously awesome if that’s the case.
And the Captcha asks the New Math problem to Factor Liannot.
September 10th, 2010 at 2:31 pm
arrggggg…It’s only Friday. Damn you Friday!. Wake me when Monday gets here.
September 10th, 2010 at 9:35 pm
I think it would be better if Cal comes back in, those 2 are dead, all the other diner occupants are cowering in fear, and Hobbes just looks like a normal toy
September 11th, 2010 at 12:07 am
Hey JY, do you suppose you might provide a date for that little Peanuts cartoon snippet? The Google does nothing.
September 12th, 2010 at 11:37 pm
only one more day (Monday) before the reruns stop and FRESH WEAPON BROWN!!! can’t wait for wednesday!!!
September 13th, 2010 at 2:08 am
Oh no, I saw that. But to extend the metaphor, I saw the JAWS poster outside the theater too.
I can’t wait until somebody finally makes a horror movie where they never ever show the killer/monster. Closest thing was Seven, and even then they had Spacey’s character state the obvious.
Captchaeus est: tragulidae liblice. Whatius the fuckius?
