… Cue the big reveal in 5… 4…
May 26th, 2010 at 6:29 am
4.9….4.8…..4.7….
May 26th, 2010 at 7:54 am
4.69… 4.68… 4.67…
All this time dilation isn’t helping!

Points has no idea what he’s about to unleash :O
And captcha has a suggestion for the music for the big reveal: sonatas open

Watch as Monday takes us back to Chuck and the gang.
May 26th, 2010 at 9:23 am
I wonder if JY will manage to slip Susie in somewhere…or if there’ll be a reference to GROSS (Get Rid Of Smelly girlS). Of course, maybe it’s already been put in and I missed it…

NOT the smoothest move on the dance-floor. If the CAL was programmed by Dr. Van Pelt, he’s not going to have particularly fond memories of her.
And Chuck’s the guy who offed her. Howd’ja think the C’s gonna react when he finds out about that?
May 26th, 2010 at 10:38 am
Hear that? That’s the sound of property values all over the planet dropping as Cal is being let out….

May 26th, 2010 at 11:23 am
Well, wait – I’m confused. Lucy is dead? WB just said he carved her face into confetti (if memory serves), not necessarily that he killed her – and notice JY hasn’t shown us her face yet.

There’s gonna have to be one long, drawn-out battle to measure up to the long, drawn-out debut, and that can’t be easy to do; after all, how many times can you rip someone’s face off?
The countdown continues: 4.671… 4.672… 4.673…
– Captcha is hard to impress: amaze No.

I know, dramatic license and all that, but I can’t help thinking: having a containment vessel that actually cracks as you open it is … a rather odd design choice. What, are they so cheap they can afford to use ‘em once then throw ‘em away?
May 26th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
That’s probably ice buildup around the cryo chamber, Bob
Captcha knows they need cops when Cal is released: have bobbies!
May 26th, 2010 at 2:15 pm
“Works only once” does sound like a reference to Calvinball.
Captcha also thinks it will be a Calvinball battle: rules scourges
May 26th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
I’m hoping Chairman Horns et al are going to get destroyed by CALv1n. Also, don’t forget to drop by your thread in SA sometime.
May 26th, 2010 at 6:40 pm
And here it comes. At long last.
Sigh.
You know, I generally don’t like watching stuff that people like as kids being “ruined” by cynical adults for cheap laughs. (I can’t stand Family Guy) I can see how you can get laughs simply by the subversion, but at the same time it all too often crosses the line into mean-spirited.
But reading through (and laughing, and enjoying) Weapon Brown, I came to the realization that I have absolutely no emotional connection to comic strips. None whatsoever. Sure, they’re good for a laugh or two, but in the end the majority of them have zero emotional resonance. I’ve read comics all my life and I have no actual fondness for any of the characters. Not one single strip touched my heart.
Except one. And here comes the star.
But I’m going to be optimistic about this. I don’t see Chuck as “ruining” Charlie Brown so much as a character who used ol’ blockhead as a basis and then went off in his own direction to become a compelling, three-dimensional character. I’m sure Jason has the chops to do the same with Calvin. I’ll just keep reading (not that I could stop if I wanted to), and accept that everything isn’t tailored 100% to my tastes. And I’m sure I’ll continue to laugh and enjoy.
And as long as we have Calvin out here, here’s hoping he rips Frazz’s head off.

But I swear, if we get a \MEANWHILE, WITH CHUCK AND THE GANG\, type cutaway, I will never forgive you.
Until you really do reveal him.
May 26th, 2010 at 9:21 pm
I’m just looking forward to seeing if he has multiple personalities and what spaceman spiff, tracer bullet, and his transmogrifier clones will be doing. Also, what will “kapwing” mean in this dark, distopia?
May 26th, 2010 at 9:24 pm
and when, oh when will, the gentle author/maniacal future dictator of the world work in far side gags?
as captcha says: it enriches
May 26th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
@Jor: JY has not ruined any characters. Little charlie brown would be proud of what he grew into. Jason has amazing chops. Best comic on the internet. Hands down.

I love the homage to Katsuhiro Otomo’s style in the last panel.

Katsuhiro Otomo? No no. I have never heard of him or his iconic movie Akira. You must all be delusional.
…
Detective Maxwell took a drag on his cigarette. He had the Captcha Killa in front of him, he was sure of it! But getting a confession would be another matter.
“Razor all,” the man in handcuffs giggled. “Razor all!”
May 27th, 2010 at 3:20 pm
Yeah! I await the next page with bated breath.
May 27th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
Maybe this will signal a change to repurposed C&H panels below the comic now too?
I am astonished at the clever little gags JY produces with the Peanuts panels, and I’m kind of wondering if similar results can be achieved with a different strip.
May 27th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
in less than a week, Cal’s hatred of women, love of ice, and Calvinball are all explained. Wonder when H.O.B.S will show?

Oh man! this is going to be great ! Cannot wait for Monday
Seems to me that Captcha is not happy about the oil spill in Florida and sees no end in sight .

May 28th, 2010 at 10:41 pm
I’m betting a lot of people are going to be disappointed on Monday when the comic switches back to Chuck and whatever he’s doing for a few pages.
May 30th, 2010 at 5:15 pm
@Dannyboy: FUCK YOU
even if you are right, I gave up long ago believing JY cares about our complaints…..LOL
Am I the only one here who thinks Duke’s gonna buy it by the hand of C.A.L. at some point, kinda like how Mutt & Jeff came and went in a flash?
May 30th, 2010 at 6:44 pm
@Punx + Dannyboy
You are both wrong. Monday begins my new strip, “Gooble the Amorphous Hindi-speaking Blob”. It’s a bit of a departure, but I’m sure you will love it as much as Weapon Brown, which I will never speak of again.
….
“Him….roamed…” Captcha the Kid hissed as his last breath left his body. Sheriff Garret would wonder for days what he meant by that. After that, he gave up caring.
The End.

@JY: now FUCK YOU sir, you think when I step off the Greydog that would get me there, that I can’t find one person in all of Rochester to point me to your house? I will be the Annie Wilkes to your Paul Sheldon, don’t make me have to, sir…..

New Weapon Brown today?
Only good things about Monday.
