Weapon Brown 161

This weekend I will be at the Wild Pig con in Springfield New Jersey. Everyone remember to come and see me, especially you European Easter Egg Hunt winners. Boy, do you guys ever owe me!
Weekends are when I usually work on the following week’s strips, so there will probably be only one update next week, and on Friday. Yes, my output during this season of travel has been unpredictable, but I know you forgive me and love me no matter what I do. You are the doormat, and I am a Frankentsein made of chunks of Jim Jones and Stedman Graham, so great is my ability to exploit without remorse.
So, I remorselessly apologize and politely order you to stay tuned and line up for your Kool-Aid when I get back.

Moe! Awesome!
May 13th, 2010 at 11:17 pm
ah… the noodles incident. cal may be tiny, but he’s about to tear moe and the others a new one.
May 13th, 2010 at 11:28 pm
the runt of the litter is baby ??!!! I cannot rmemeber his name.
Awesome strip. Knew that the noodles would be mentioned.
anyone know what the reference to 23 is?
May 13th, 2010 at 11:36 pm
Finally a comic I know backwards and forwards. Aside from the obvious reference to the infamous “noodle incident,” I just wanted to point out that Moe always called Calvin “runt.”
May 14th, 2010 at 1:21 am
Prediction:
Bluto will be shredded like spinach.
Bushka will have his head twisted off like a crankshaft.
Derrick will be peeled like an “onion”.
And Moe will be squeezed until his insides squirt out of him. Like a Twinkie.

‘sokay about the dearth of updates. You’ve been delivering great stuff when you’ve been around. Also, great use of some classic bullies. Of course I would have enjoyed seeing Bluto and Pops throwing down, but I don’t expect Cal is going to leave enough of ol’ whiskers for that

Is that Garfield’s Lyle in frame 3? He did mysteriously vanish after his brief role with Beepo and Roadkill. I recall you said he ended up in The Phantom Zone with Zod and company, but I don’t think that tidbit was released to the general public.

Nothing can stop C.A.L. His one weakness is the strange and elusive “Gurl”, an eerie quirk of evolution that is the zenith of weirdness in the universe!
Captcha shot this guy, but he did not shoot the are deputy.
is sheriff
May 14th, 2010 at 11:15 am
Ah the classic RUNT Trope. this is going to be bloody an I need an umbrella. Welcome back JY , you are in rare form good sir.
Captcha likes Revivalist Broadway it seems. Good to see a old Classic Character revived

Lyman! Yes! I knew I’d seen that mustache somewhere before, but I just couldn’t picture it without the rest of the face.
@lkjsdflskf: 23 is the number of pairs of chromosomes we all have, so it’s a perfect number to use in a cloning story.

This is amazing, cannot wait for the reveal, and even more so for HOBBES introduction.
May 14th, 2010 at 3:25 pm
The runt of the litter looks like Sluggo from the comic strip Nancy.
May 14th, 2010 at 7:16 pm
So the others I can figure out (though honestly I’m a little surprised anyone ever found Funky Winkerbean entertaining enough to bother learning the names of the characters; I assume one of them is named “Funky” but I’m not sure which one it is) … but who the heck is “Derrick” and what comic is he from? (Boondocks, maybe? One of Marcus’ army of brothers from Jump Start?)
May 14th, 2010 at 9:07 pm
Hey, it’s Moe in the last panel! sweet! I was wondering when he was gonna show!!
Project Noodles incident? L O L
I wonder if “Twinkie” will be mentioned at some point? That was what Moe taunted Calvin with. Maybe it’s CAL’s killphrase, like Chuck’s is Blockhead?
Captcha’s getting Contraversial: That raciness
May 14th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
Also,(apology for double post) I finally figured out who the guy with the king is: It’s Sir Rodney!!
May 15th, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Derrick is a bully from the “Curtis” strip.
May 15th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
@ iGorp : that’s exactly what I was thinking as well. Just couldn’t remember Sluggo’s name or what comic he was from.
Other than that, it could be Calvin from when the time he and Hobbes cut his hair.
I think the babysitter is also Calvin’s nemisis
May 15th, 2010 at 9:34 pm
The babysitter was his nemesis, but Susie Derkins was his foil.
May 15th, 2010 at 10:18 pm
OK, all of the sudden it all just hit me:
23 subjects, first 5 that came online slaughtered the other 18 in “just two minutes”, leaving the 5 including Cal, who is obviously the runt of the litter mentioned, but not seen, and the focus of the rest in last frame (and we have 6 days to wait for the next update, and it will be hell to await).
So if we go along the laws of average, each of them killed at least 3 apiece before deciding to weed themselves…..and since we can only assume that he survived that onslaught, I can see why he just might be a match for Chuck
May 16th, 2010 at 1:51 am
JY,
Your art as always is awesome.
Captcha Agrees: Hold mouths
May 16th, 2010 at 3:57 pm
Captcha: hurry and and update
May 16th, 2010 at 9:22 pm
Prediction: This’ll fade to black in a moment. We’ll never actually get to see how CALv1n kicks everyone’s ass, and Dilbert will be unable to explain it. The \Project Noodle\ incident will forever remain shrouded in mystery.
May 16th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
hope so. noodles never got explained under Watterson’s watch.
It will be interesting to see how JY shrouds it. Am guessing CalV1N does something so drastic and horrible that the power of the building shuts down (we already know its unstable electricity) and what not. We’re not going to see Calv1N monday, as JY will find a way to flip it back to either Chuck or build the suspense, but looking forward to Monday’s strip!
Captcha: update timely on monday please!
May 17th, 2010 at 8:12 am
@lkjsdflskf: JY: Weekends are when I usually work on the following week’s strips, so there will probably be only one update next week, and on Friday.
Pays to read the update other than for the strip itself
May 17th, 2010 at 9:12 am
I am loving the panel that has a hand holding a ripped out spine …. it’s details like these that bring me back here.
Recaptcha : Business minuends, like the project noodles kids and the subtrahend is his spine muahahaha Its only business friends!
May 18th, 2010 at 3:54 pm
Okay, wait…
“Twenty-three survived the nanoware installation… the remainder were quarantined.”
Um, the remainder were *dead.* You have the 23 who survived, and *then* the remainder.
Did you (or the Dilbert clone, we can blame it on him) perhaps mean “the *survivors* were quarantined”??
May 19th, 2010 at 8:19 am
@TheBruce: I just noticed what you meant, but I think it’s a minor contextual quibble, really…..the point is gotten across
May 19th, 2010 at 10:00 am
Actually, the art gets the point across.
But seriously, it’s a minor quibble, true… but the original Dilbert was known to correct his dates’ grammar (thereby insuring no second dates). *He* wouldn’t have made this error.
