Most work Wally’s ever done.
March 25th, 2010 at 5:28 pm
Worth the wait. Also: great use for Dogbert’s head. he did not die in vain.
March 25th, 2010 at 5:39 pm
The noodle incident…, I don’t think there’s any remnant of doubt that cal-v.1n is at the bottom of this.
(wonder which way up “The Box” is)
March 25th, 2010 at 6:05 pm
And there’s Phil, Prince of Insufficient Light, hitting them with his spoon.
March 25th, 2010 at 6:50 pm
Haha I love that they’re all in heck!
March 25th, 2010 at 7:12 pm
Let’s see… Wally, Asok, Alice, and I Phil, the Prince of Insuficcient light! awsome.
And I get the Noodle Incident reference… But how does HOBS play into this? Is he a companion to CAL-V.1n like Snoop is to Chuck?
Also, Outside-the-Box thinking… Longshot here, but… Transmogrifier, anyone? Or maybe Duplicator(which is how they make so many Dog/cat/Ratberts?)?
March 25th, 2010 at 8:31 pm
“Noodle”… dang why it took so much to get it? XD
Can’t wait to see the role the tiger will play on this…
March 25th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
So badass.
March 25th, 2010 at 9:08 pm
There is the spoon from heck.
March 25th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
even more badass.. refernce to Watterson’s “noodles incident”
it was never shown in the strip, just refererred to. So awesome
March 25th, 2010 at 9:11 pm
anyone catch the “blue ribbon banding” reference? I don’t see it. Explain please?
March 25th, 2010 at 9:18 pm
@freemadman: the box is moreso a reference to cubicles, the office life, etc. the pointy hair boss in dilbert has
March 25th, 2010 at 10:50 pm
I notice that there’s another woman at the big wheel; would that be Carol, the pointy-haired one’s bitter secretary? Or just a random woman? Also, the way that Dilbert used the Rube Goldberg setup to “signal” Wally, instead of just letting the little ball do it: classic comedy.
I eagerly await the next installment, as I’m sure everyone else does.
– Captcha owns an antique German car: ehrhardt the.

I don’t think “blue ribbon branding committee” is a reference to a specific event, but I could be wrong; it’s exactly the sort of thing Adams likes to make fun of, so he could very well have mentioned it at some point.
A cynical person might observe that, as people in general have finally come to realize that “marketing” is really just a prettier word for “advertising”, a new word that the unwashed masses haven’t yet figured out is just another term for the same old sleaze is needed, and that that word is “branding.”
So, I’m observing that.
A blue ribbon branding committee would be a group of “experts” who chose the name for the project. By the rules of corporations, these people were probably paid as much to come up with the name as the engineering staff was to actually develop it.

Is it just me or does anyone else think there should be a Honey Huan pin-up in that outfit? Just like Archie and Blondie…me likey
just like the captcha phrase: classy…have
March 26th, 2010 at 6:13 am
The woman turning the wheel with the big triangular hairdo is of course Alice, Dilbert’s overworked/hit-the-glass-ceiling co-worker.
March 26th, 2010 at 11:45 am
@rasmodeus: I meant the other woman, who’s behind Phil’s spoon. We can’t see all of her, but she seems shapeless enough to be Carol.
About HOBS: I wonder if it’s some kind of artificial animal that has to be close to Cal-v.1n in order to function. That would be a pretty good take on how everyone but Calvin saw Hobbes as just a toy. Also, I wonder if Susie Derkins and Mr. Bun will turn up during the big battle; that could be a gut-busting punchline.
– Captcha likes to laugh at past presidents: Carter’s humorous.

Holy Crap! Mary Worth has a helluva rack…
March 26th, 2010 at 4:42 pm
The way I saw the “outside-the-box” reference was as a dig to the real life syndicate (in this case, Universal Press). C&H was definitely an outside-the-box comic for its time, but Watterson still felt “boxed-in” by the syndicate and the ever-shrinking newspaper space.
In whatever case, it’s still terrific writing. Awesome job, Jason!

Guess who got her CAL-V1N shirt today!! Also managed to hook my roommate into reading Deep Fried. ^_^
March 27th, 2010 at 12:43 am
I’m thinking that the reason Horns said \not every tool is suited for a life outside the box\ is because Cal-V.1n is insane. I’ll bet 5 internets that he has a stuffed tiger and that he talks to it like its alive, just like in C&H when his parents were around. I’ll also wager that when he goes out to kill people he refers to it as \playing Calvinball\.
March 27th, 2010 at 1:50 am
@ dannyboy: but if you read the extended print version where Calv1N is introduced, Hobbes really does f up and attack some hicks at a local watering hole while Calv1n takes a leak.
March 27th, 2010 at 1:51 am
@ lonnie: I think you’re right regarding that being a reference to Watterson. He was constantly arguing with the papers about print and format size. awesome analysis
March 27th, 2010 at 12:19 pm
Y’know, I just realized that being strip 150, there wasn’t just a wee bit of celebration…..understandably since you are busy and all but I say congrats anyway, sir
March 28th, 2010 at 1:03 am
I celebrated. I just celebrated getting my Cal-V1N T-shirt with 17 straight hours of backbreaking labor. And I’m not finished. A Proper Distopian Celebration that.
March 28th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
@lkjlkjsdf: I kept wondering if anybody else read that book. It seemed odd that with so many fans here that not everybody jumped on getting Issue #2 with Calvin’s appearence. His entrance alone was priceless. I don’t want to say too much cause people really should buy this book. Since you mentioned it Calvin taking a leak was priceless.
Oh and I got my shirt too and wore it yesterday and made shure to go out in public so it can be displayed.
March 28th, 2010 at 10:09 pm
@Punx
I shouldn’t have to go trawling for gratitude at 150! You should all be sending Target gift cards to my PO box!
March 28th, 2010 at 10:28 pm
Read this all over the last two days…this is everything I’ve ever wanted in a comic. Gotta track down the stuff not available in the archives! Any suggestions?
March 28th, 2010 at 10:39 pm
@JY: No mention was mentioned of you having to trawl for it, I just noticed no one else had mentioned it, and gave you my gratitude, as I felt it was another milestone reached, with the likelihood that strip #200 may be the end of this particular saga……
@Man-at-arms: (nice Masters of the Universe tag) go to the banner at the top of this page, click on Store, it’s called a Megaton Pack…….
March 28th, 2010 at 11:03 pm
I got my shirt the other day and proudly wore it to the show I’m acting in that night. I’ve been exposing the kids in the cast to Jason’s work, so I’m doing my part to corrupt the minds of our nation…
March 29th, 2010 at 1:11 am
@hobb7es : I wore my Calvin shirt today as well. I like it better without the text, and wish the WB shirt (or the next WB shirt) does not have text. That way it focuses on the art, and people tend to ask about the shirt.
New WB tomorrow. Go Chuck!!!
ps. you’re right.. that whole introduction of CalV.1N in the extra comic was awesome.
March 29th, 2010 at 8:52 am
Wally’s not actually working. He’s just grunting and walking.
March 29th, 2010 at 10:20 am
@MAN-AT-ARMS
None of the material from the original Weapon Brown 1-shot is online. You can buy that in my store. And there will be a new Weapon brown short story in the inevitable Deep Fried #4, arriving in April.

I think it’s time for a Megaton pack, then!

ForestFire0 – I have a feeling Dogbert gets recreated every time they need to fire up the elevators.
