Ah, Duke. He’s like Hunter S. Thompson with a pulse.
Interesting to see Sad Sack has fallen to the dark side, thought. (That IS Sad Sack kicking the old lady, right?)
March 15th, 2010 at 2:24 am
Nope, it’s Willie and Joe.
March 15th, 2010 at 6:27 am
I can’t help but wonder how Duke can be weaponized.
He’s pretty irredeemable already. Anything short of being a frothing sociopath is a step towards normality.

Not that I am in any position to complain, really, but WTF is going on here? Spook gives the Syndicate WB and the rest’s position, and they’re distributing food instead of marshalling forces to attack? Or is this some part of the process? Duke doesn’t seem to happy about it, and it looks like Honey is sporting a nice ball gag back there too, or am I just imagining details?

homg comix r phun. do you donty? or donty you donty?

Looks like it’s time to “Name That Toon” again: The one with the curly hair on top of his head might be Normie from “Momma”; the two short, fat people could be the Lockhorns; and that’s all I’ve got. I have no idea who “Willie and Joe” are. Anyone else take a guess?
@punx: Maybe Horns and Duke are on their way to hook up with the invasion forces, and just happen to be passing over the food distribution point and commenting on it.

Willie and Joe were WWII era GI’s who were featured in the Stars and Stripes newspaper. The kid with the freckles in the first panel kinda looks like Dick Tracy’s son Junior…

NaOH: I’m with you. He and Popeye are the two most unchanged characters in the series (at least personality-wise, in Pops’ case).
But then how can you improve upon “amoral sociopath” and “roughneck moralist”?
March 15th, 2010 at 3:37 pm
@ Jody, Well you could try amoral moralist. No wait, that’s a talk show host….

…This seems like an effective way of distributing financial aid, there’s a lot less guilt for taking handouts if you have to get shot at first

I think Duke will be weaponized by turning out to be against the Syndicate. He’s actually sabatoging them from within. There’s no better way to pervert a REALLY bad guy then by making him a secret good guy.

Willie and Joe where drawn by the great Bill Maudlin (who has root beer with Snoopy every Veteran’s Day).

@SW: you know, I just quickly read it this morning, and only now did I realize they are in the wittle hewicopta looking down at it….and likely on the way to the massing forces I was talking about
But I still think Honey’s all ball-gagged

Helicopter. Turkeys. Is that a reference?
“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”

@Bob
Oh man…WKRP. That is one of the funniest episodes in TV history.

Willy watches while Willie kicks Ethel, and wonders: Are the D-minus class rations just a little better than the F class rations? And is that un hommage du that modern piece of funnypaper excretion, “F-minus”?

Maybe things are getting desperate and this was meant to be a last ditch ploy to keep the masses from getting restless while the Syndicate makes its bid for the schmoo.
Or maybe in the next page or two we’ll learn that the community outreach program is bullshit apart from a few staged propaganda handouts. Or that contamination levels in the rations have finally hit critical, and everyone’ll have terminal cancer or wahtever by the time the food runs out anyway.

Finally. Trickle down theory finally worked.
Today’s Captcha:
It looks like global warming caught up to one of the pearls from the Middle East.

I dunno if anyone else reads marvel, but the phrase the G.I.s are spouting seems eerily similar to what the skrull always say in Secret Invasion (He Loves You)
March 16th, 2010 at 6:32 pm
There seems to be a bit of confusion here. THE SOLDIERS ARE NOT IN ANNE’S SECRET CITY. How the heck could they get a helicopter 100 feet underground?
This is just a depiction of a typical city under the Syndicate’s control (there are more cities out there than B.C., of course), as seen by Horns and Duke as they fly by on the way for invading Anne’s hideout.
March 16th, 2010 at 8:19 pm
I just noticed the SS-style Syndicate armband on the soldiers actually looks the same as Chuck’s shirt pattern…

A shame how Duke pronounces (and pluralizes) ‘piranha’ wrong….

Willy & Ethel comics! I haven’t seen those in forever!
I actually didn’t notice until I full-screened the image and it centered on that glazed look in his eye.

Great. You just refreshed my sadness that Hunter S. Thompson is dead
Rest easy brave warrior, though we need you now more than ever.
