Can we start the ominous music now? Gotta love Hilda.
BTW, In panel 6, why does it look like it’s two spirits now? Is one spook and the other what’s left of Weapon’s DNA?
December 31st, 2009 at 1:47 pm
OK, my take: when Hilda blew it up, it was dispersed and, as she says, is now heading back to the Syndicate, so like the reverse of smoke, all the pieces are heading back and will slowly come together to reconstitute the full Spook.
(if you look not only are there what looks like two spooks but the tail of another is coming down from top as it goes out of frame)
JY: Is Pops supposed to have a blank face in frame 3?
And again it only took me two times through Hilda’s dialog to get what she said LOL and gotta love Pops re: the Queen’s English

oops, meant King’s English LOL
December 31st, 2009 at 1:58 pm
ooh…..nice inside joke: King Features distributed Popeye Cartoons back in the day, ergo the King’s English line….JY, you planning on annotating this when it comes out as a GN, because I think for every reference I get in this, I miss 3 others…

He won’t have to annotate this. I expect Jason will be the subject of numerous Master’s theses, and a few Doctoral dissertations as well.

OK, I’m just gonna hog up the comments for a minute LOL
As I mentioned above, I feel like for every reference I get in WB, I must miss 3 others…since we had a whole discussion on the spell thing, does the fact you may not get all the references change in any way your appreciation of the story? Because I do believe you could read this having never seen Peanuts or any other funny papers and still get into and enjoy it as is…I had a Megaton Pack sent to a service buddy of mine over in Iraq, and he didn’t know all the characters, but he thought the story kicked major ass, so I think that proves my point, but as we are all funny fetishists here, I was just wondering…

@Ma’ad Ouisge’ Grinne: You may be very correct, but even all those dissertations and theses may not catch all the references and JY is the only one who knows each and every motherfucking one he’s put here….just sayin’, y’know

@punx
I’m sure King Features’ lawyers will detail every reference when they file the lawsuit. Also, Pops has a blank face because who’s gonna notice?

@JY: Also, Pops has a blank face because who’s gonna notice?
I did….LOL
and as for the lawsuits…..you can put me down as a character witness and I will gladly tell them to GO FUCK OFF if they think this is worth suing over…

OK, I just found an easy way to hear Hilda for those who might be having problems:
Think of her voice as like Tia Dalma from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, or a Jamaican accent if you like when you say what she says, it makes sense if you try
Don’t even get me started on how I hear anyone else, though…

Couldn’t help noticing that the list of tags looks like a summary of today’s episode: “Hilda pops spook.”
Of course, now that the Syndicate knows where they are, we’ll probably see everyone there getting ready for an invasion. Curious to see how many more familiar faces we’ll be seeing in the crowd. Maybe even The Yellow Kid, the first comics star ever; he could have an LCD display on his shirt, to communicate what his paralyzed face can’t. Of course, Billy Bounce would be handy in an all-out battle, dropping bombs from above and landing on soldiers with smashing force. (Just thinkin’ out loud.)

Hilda is Easy to understand , if you spent any time in Louisiana or any Heavy Cajun / Western Indies Native English speaker. Reminds me of people I met in NEw orleans for Mardi GRas.
