I do not get the reference to the music in the last panel. Are they from famous comics?

These people, Huey, Annie, etc are relentless.

  2. ljlksdjf

badass artwork though. really like the first panel. look at the size of Chuck’s wrists. He is a strong strong man.

  3. McFucko

Did you just translate ‘Trogdor’ into German?

  4. James

    From the Babelfish german-to-English translator:
    They run with the devil
    cry Satan’s hate
    Dead tongue! Dead Tongue!
    the dragon rises/rose at night

Don’t know how accurate that is, and don’t know what song that’s from

  5. Jor

Oh, man. And I thought Chuck was going to be serenaded with “Tomorrow”, which would be bad enough.

  6. NaOH

James: You’re pretty accurate with the translation.
No idea what song it is.

  7. NaOH

    Pffththtbbl!

  8. Nonnymus

Dude! It’s not “Dead Tongue,” it’s Deathtongue, the classic Heavy Metal band out of Bloom County! Bill T CatT on vocals/lead tongue, Hodge-Podge on drums, Steve Dallas on vocals/guitar, and THE Opus Penguin on Electric Tuba!!!

  9. destruya

Yep, that’s a “hurt locker,” alright.

  10. Ben

The original lyrics were in a Bloom County strip:

Run with the devil! Shout Satan’s might!
Deathtöngue! Deathtöngue! The beast rises tonight!
    Aackthpth!

In the original Bloom County story arc, a woman’s young son had been exposed to the music of Deathtöngue and was going around singing these lyrics. . . and had also taken up occult practices and ended up turning Steve Dallas into a zucchini. ‘Twas all a parody of the heavy metal “satanic panic” of the ’80s. . .

Looks like Deathtöngue has been post-apocalyptically transformed into something more like Rammstein. Well *done*

That is so awesome that Jason worked that in there. Great fans too, who can explain the various clues, since nobody is going to get them all. A lot of Sunday comic aficionados are reading weapon brown. GO CHUCK!!

  12. JY

Good job decrypting my pigin german, gang!

  13. John

I much preferred Deathtöngue to its hair-band reincarnation as Billy and the Boingers.

  14. jammit

    The horror! Those aren’t Klipsch.

  15. peepants

So, what are the odds the second that music started blaring ol Weapon Brown’s codename changed to something more like my name?

  16. A.L.

You know, even before I noticed translated the lyrics and said what comic strip they were from,I like to image it was a Rammstein song, because it just seems that practical. That and they are awesome.

  17. Chyll Will

@Ben: Milo Bloom also found out during the course of “investigative reporting” that when played backwards, one of their songs had a Beatlesque-hidden message – “Goooo to Schooool… Saaaay your Praaayyyers…” >;)

  18. Richard

Everything’s so fantastic about this page: The sudden appearance of the wall of speakers, the small “click” frame, the translation puzzle in the third frame. It’s a peak moment in a series that’s already consistently amazing.

  19. Baughbe

At least it wasn’t Atomic Rooster

  20. agentsarahjane

Not that my comment should add anything of value here but the music was actually was performed by Mucky Pup on the Flexidisc that was released with The Billy and the Boingers Bootleg
however the Germanese version of the song made me feel like I was 10 again :-D

  21. flabajaba

Mr. Yungbluth, I offer unto you my first born child. May you raise him to be a fine man.

  22. Sherlock_Watson

When I saw that it was in German, I thought you were working the Katzenjammer Kids in there; is that the case, or was the language change-up just a way to avoid being devoured by a pack of rabid lawyers?

    ‘Cause those katz can jam!

  23. Turkmenbashi

Right, I can safely say I’d never have spotted that one in a million years. I don’t think Bloom County was ever syndicated down under.

  24. lksdfjljksdf

Monday is tomorrow. New update! Chuck has got to have some tricks up his sleeve. Go Chuck! Go Snoop!!

  25. Frank

Sweet Jesus…. A Deathtongue reference? JY… you leave me staggered.

  26. Don

I was waaaaaaaaaaaay wrong on what I thought the “enjoy the music” reference was in the last post. This is better.

  27. Elka

holy shit I came back just in time! Phhbbbttt!! :p~

    love those little skull notes.

  28. RainOfSteel

\It’s a small world after all . . .\ would have been even more effective, but it just wouldn’t have fit the atmosphere of the times.

  29. MarvoDaMighty

:Lights a Candle at the Altar of JY:

All COmic Blessings to the great Illustrator and Storyteller
:cue Chimes and Gongs 87 times:

:all praise the JY, JY is Awesomeness………:

  30. NothingsMonstered

Deathtöngue is OK, but I was really hoping it’d be Beethoven, for a combined Peanuts/Clockwork Orange reference.
