I love how Hughie turns it into fried chicken in the middle panel. And “I is what I is” is perhaps the greatest example of almost trademark infringement used in a fabulous way that I’ve ever seen.

In the comics, Popeye was extremely tough even without spinach; once he was shot four times, and he simply coughed up the bullets and said, “Ja think I’m a sissy?” If he and Chuck went at it hand-to-hand with no intervention, I honestly don’t know who would win.
